Mental Health Commission of Canada

The Mental Health Commission of Canada is a national non-profit organization created by the Canadian government in 2007 to govern issues relating to mental health and mental illness.

The organization is governed by a board of directors including 11 non-governmental directors. Seven of these directors are appointed by the government, as well as the Chair Michael Kirby. This board will be assisted by eight advisory committees.

The proposal for creation of the Mental Health Commission of Canada was made by the Canadian Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology in November 1984.
